Four coordinated stages from feed to qualified ultrafine powder

  1. 01

Controlled feedPre-crushed material enters the main mill and is distributed across the rotating grinding zones.

  2. 02

Layered ring-roller grindingMultiple turnplates drive rollers along fixed tracks, applying repeated compression and shearing.

  3. 03

Air classificationHigh-pressure airflow conveys powder to the turbine classifier; coarse particles return for further grinding.

  4. 04

Product collectionQualified fines pass through cyclone and pulse collection while the designed air circuit controls dust.

Why ultrafine applications require CRGM rather than a Raymond mill

The correct route is determined by the finished powder specification, not by mill size alone.

When CRGM is technically necessaryProducts near 5-20 μm, low coarse-particle residue and controlled D97 affect dispersion, surface finish, reinforcement and filler performance. A conventional Raymond circuit normally cannot provide the same ultrafine cut precision.
Confirm Your D97 Target

Fine mineral powder for performance-critical industries

CRGM is preferred when coatings, masterbatch, paper, rubber, engineered plastics, cosmetics or fine fillers require a low coarse-particle residue and controlled D97.

Calcite for calcium carbonate grinding

Calcite

Coatings, plastic, rubber, paper and artificial marble fillers.

Limestone for Raymond mill grinding

Limestone

Building materials, desulfurization and general mineral filler.

Dolomite mineral grinding material

Dolomite

Glass, ceramics, metallurgy and construction fillers.

Barite for ultrafine grinding

Barite

Drilling, high-density filler and coating applications.

Kaolin for ultrafine mineral powder

Kaolin

Ceramics, paper coating, rubber and paint.

Talc ore for fine powder grinding

Talc

Plastic, coating, ceramic and cosmetic fillers.

Gypsum for Raymond grinding

Gypsum

Wallboard, plaster, cement and industrial powder.

Bentonite for mineral grinding

Bentonite

Foundry, drilling, pelletizing and absorbent products.

Why not use a Raymond mill?Products near 5-20 microns, tight top-cut residue and functional surface requirements need more classification precision than a conventional Raymond circuit normally provides.

CRGM ultrafine grinding mill FAQ

Use these answers as an initial engineering framework. Final selection still requires raw material and finished-product data.

CRONUS engineers reviewing grinding mill drawings
1. What is the main difference between CRGM and a Raymond mill?

CRGM uses multi-layer ring-roller grinding and a turbine classifier for ultrafine powder. A Raymond mill uses pendulum rollers and is optimized for conventional mineral powder with higher throughput.

2. Can CRGM produce 3000-mesh powder?

It can be treated as a project target for suitable materials and configurations. The supplied standard catalog lists 5-74 microns, approximately 200-2500 mesh, so 3000 mesh requires sample testing and classifier confirmation.

3. What materials are suitable for CRGM?

Typical materials include calcite, marble, dolomite, barite, talc, gypsum, petroleum coke, brucite, kaolin, bentonite and other brittle materials generally below Mohs hardness 6.

4. How is CRGM fineness adjusted?

Classifier speed, process airflow and feed rate are coordinated through variable-frequency control. Product changeovers may also require cleaning and operating parameter stabilization.

5. What does D97 ≤ 5 microns mean?

Under the agreed particle-size test method, 97% of measured particles are at or below 5 microns. It is more precise than describing the product only by mesh.

6. How is CRGM capacity confirmed?

Capacity depends on mineral grindability, feed size, moisture, target D97, top-cut residue and circulation load. Catalog values are references and sample testing is recommended.

7. Does the system include dust collection?

The standard CRGM circuit includes cyclone separation, pulse bag filtration, a blower, piping and a muffler, with project-specific discharge and enclosure options.

8. Which parts normally wear?

Grinding rollers, rings, classifier components, pins, filter bags and seals are typical service items. Wear life depends on abrasiveness and operating hours.

9. Can one CRGM line make several grades?

Yes, within the selected classifier and operating range. Very different grades require controlled changeovers and may benefit from separate product collection.

10. What data is required for a quotation?

Provide material name, chemistry, hardness, moisture, feed size, target D97 or mesh, output, operating hours, voltage and project location.
